The Culture Of Pop-Bachelorette Recap: Week 10

Posted: Sat, 25 Jul 2009 05:19:47 CST

This Week's Episode: The Men Babylonandonandon (zzzzzzzzzzz).....

Will somebody wake us up when Lady Jillian is at the door? For Sir Jeffrey finds this Man Code thing quite a bore. In layman's terms? What a bunch of (mostly) nincompoops. But TCOP regulars Dena and Lisa (Celebrity Sidedish/Beauty Broads) had a blast...and so did special guest panelist Mike Spring of DVD Snapshot who joins in the recap fun as the ABC summer smash heads toward the finish line with Monday's season finale.

Also: Find out which of Jillian's former suitors gets an apology from Dena, hear our predictions for who will be the lucky/eventual groom and as usual, Jeffrey's usual quota of praises and wardrobe adoration for the star of the show..

And Jillian? If by slim chance you're listening? Our closing music echoes Jeffrey's feelings on these would-be makeover artists/critics saying you need to change this, have that fixed...Why tamper with girl-next-door perfection?

(All together everybody: Awwwwwwwwwwwwww)

Posted: Thu, 23 Jul 2009 07:55:30 CST

Woodstock P.A. Announcer Voice: You don't need a ticket to get in, kids...it's a free podcast!

Hey, it's always been, but just play along, okay?

Episode 81 of The DVD Marquee includes Jeffrey's takes on Clint Eastwood's critically acclaimed Gran Torino, the 2009 reboot of Friday The 13th and an amazing blu-ray special edition of the Oscar winning documentary Woodstock.

If that's not enough show, Keisha Knight Pulliam from The Cosby Show also drops by to chat with the Marquee Man on working with Tyler Perry (House Of Payne; Madea Goes To Jail) and the legendary William H. Cosby (better known to you and me as Bill)..

..and Jeffrey takes time to send a sincere show ending salute to two longtime supporters of the program.

The Culture Of Pop-Bachelorette Recap: Week 9

Posted: Thu, 16 Jul 2009 19:45:51 CST

With Wes out of the way, you'd think Jillian and three hunka-hunka-hunks in the paradise state would make for quite a pleasure cruise on episode 9 of The Bachelorette.

Think again, Jackie Collins!

Come with (we) while the moon is on the sea, but leave the gym class shorts at home (Ed what WERE you thinking, pal?) as Jeffrey and the Beauty Broad twins (Dena/Lisa) say Aloha with witty, insightful and non-oily commentary on the sexiest and most emotional episode of the ABC summertime reality smash yet.

But in a rare break from the good hearted tone of recent recaps, Jeffrey speaks from the heart in the homestretch of the program via a memory from his romantic past that makes him feel such compassion for his pick to win Jilly's heart: Reid.

BONUS ONLINE ONLY OUTTAKE:

Enjoy this funny off-the-air moment as Lisa comments on Jeffrey's love of Jillian's fashion sense (particularly one hot white Fantasy Suite number that left Rosado a little...whew...something):

The Culture Of Pop-Bachelorette Recap: Week 8

Posted: Wed, 15 Jul 2009 09:40:28 CST

DISCLAIMER: Technical problems prevented us from getting this up timely over the weekend of July 11th, but a great show for those who want to relive two of the most exciting hours in reality TV history....

Wes at last, Wes at last....Great God A-Mighty, we are Wes-Free at last in Bacheloretteville! As sportscaster Marv Albert would say, YES!!!!

(Gee, this guy makes Mesnick's boo-boo look like....a boo-boo...kinda).

Grab the maracas, castanets and Arthur Murray dance manual for Kiptyn! Senor Jeffrey's off to Spain (albeit in spirt only, but in the words of Hoyt Axton/Three Dog Night, he kinda likes the music) for commentary on another travelogue edition of The Bachlorette on this The Culture Of Pop edition of the show along with pallies Dena and Lisa.

Episode 80-Looking Ahead To Oscars 2010

Posted: Mon, 13 Jul 2009 22:16:16 CST

March 7th, 2010 may seem a long ways away, but since Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before we know it, why not talk Academy Awards now and get a jump on Chris Connelly a few months early, eh?

Jeffrey welcomes back L.A. Times movie blogger Scott Feinberg (And The Winner Is...) for a long overdue return visit to the program to talk potential early Oscar front runners, belatedly reflect on one of the best Oscar shows in years (come back anytime, Hugh Jackman), and the Academy's controversial decision to increase the number of Best Pictures from 5 to 10 for the first time in over six decades.

Episode 79-Braving The Brothers Jonas; Farewell, Michael...

Well, whaddya know, a show about DVD's for a change!

After several dress rehearsal sneak previews for his forthcoming talk show (The Culture Of Pop) and production delays (hopefully a thing of the past), Jeffrey returns to the Marquee chair with a little something for all kinds of home video tastes (Confessions Of A Shopaholic, The Norman Lear Collection, the critically acclaimed Waltz With Bashir, jazz music wonder Diana Krall: Live In Rio..and the Marquee Man even braves The Jonas Brothers: Concert Experience...whatta guy!)

On a more serious note, Jeffrey also pays heartfelt tribute to three amazing performers who've left us in recent weeks (Farrah, Ed and Michael) and gives us recommendations on their best work currently available on the DVD format to remember them by.

The Culture Of Pop (Sneak Peek): The Bachelorette: Week 6 Recap

Posted: Mon, 29 Jun 2009 12:15:09 CST

First things first...prolly not a good idea to talk train rides with Robby the Bartender for a while...with more twists and turns than six viewings of Silver Streak, Jillian's train of looooooove provided Bachelorette groupies with the most exciting episode of the season thus far..

To attempt to make sense of it all, Jeffrey is joined one more 'gain by his fellow Jilli-Aides (little Almost Famous ref, there), Dena/Lisa from Celebrity Sidedish podcast...

Tanner's last foot fling, Jake's fatal not opening up soon enough moments, Wes' moused up/just fell out of bed sleepy eyed-I'm so damn cool look (ugh)....we cover it all...

Marquee Fans: Stay patient, old brethren...Your patience will be rewarded with a flood of new episodes coming in days ahead...

Remembering Ed, Farrah and Michael: The Culture Of Pop

Posted: Fri, 26 Jun 2009 11:47:14 CST

Webmaster Note: Just as pre-production wrapped on DVD Marquee Episode 79 Thursday afternoon, sad news broke from L.A. ...and changed all our plans resulting in a special episode of The Culture Of Pop.

Jeffrey asked us to post this statement/introductory piece for him:

Ed, Farrah and Michael were three incredibly talented, instantly charismatic and beyond beloved individuals...

Ed was the jovial everyman that represented our laughter in response to a funny Nebraska boy named Johnny with whom he helped send America to bed with smiles into the twilight.

Farrah was a good old Texas gal made good on the TV...and walked away from her comfort zone to challenge herself becoming an inspiration to millions of actresses who didn't want to be known as strictly cheesecake..

...and little Michael (sigh)...who became one of music's last great showmen of the 20th century at the tender age of 9 years old via our knitted speaker living room Zenith TV's and pocket sized transistor radios blazing out four number one smashes in a row (I Want You Back/ABC/The Love You Save/I'll Be There) which paved the way for the likes of classic solo albums (Off The Wall and Thriller).

Now, they all belong to the ages.

Along with my friends Dena and Lisa (Celebrity Sidedish), I invite you to join us for this special, funny, heartfelt remembrance of three diverse but no less influential, wonderful people that enriched our lives and made them better with their creative gifts.

Sincerely,

-Jeffrey Rosado

Sneak Preview: The Culture Of Pop

Posted: Mon, 22 Jun 2009 14:39:34 CST

While finishing touches on a brand new DVD Marquee episode continues,
enjoy this sneak peek at Jeffrey's forthcoming pop culture driven talk show called The Culture of Pop (clever, eh?)

Okay, it may not have been the most DRAMATIC or SHOCKING rose ceremony EVER (!!!), but last week's installment of The Bachelorette had plenty of drama from Ed's departure to millions wincing in non-anticipation of Tanner P's toes (please don't, dude).

What's a poor (but oh-so-pretty) Jillian to do? Jeffrey jaws with Dena/Lisa from the Celebrity Sidedish podcast about the remaining contenders (or pretenders) and even goes a little Wes-ly by crooning a homemade ditty especially for Ms. Harris (minus the spiky geled up hair...JR prefers the natural/sincere look)..

If you have any questions/suggestions, don't hesitate to contact Jeffrey@: thedvdmarquee@gmail.com
